My Story - Pat Blandford
In January 2003 Pat and Chris had been married for 34 years, when Chris - aged 59 was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. He died on the 1st June, 6 months after the original diagnosis.
In many relationships one partner looks after all the financial matters and in this case it was Chris. Soon after the diagnosis he contacted their Solicitor to ensure that his affairs were tidied for Pat's benefit. Chris had done everything possible to provide for his wife and he wanted her to be looked after once he died.
The solicitor decided to introduce Jan Oliff to deal with Pat's future financial arrangements knowing that she needed everything keeping simple.
Pat says "My world had come to an end. I managed to function for a couple of months after the funeral and then it became bleak. Having someone to sort out my investments and income took away any financial worry. I always know that you are at the end of the phone when ever I have any questions."
